Parliament Speaker: Lebanon won’t give up a drop of its water to Israel

M Update 03/04/2019 – Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said his country will not give up its water to Israel.

This came during his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi in Baghdad.

“Israel wants to control our water, but we will not give up a single glass of water, as I informed US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, last week,” Berri’s media office quoted him as saying.

Remarking on Iraq’s situation, Berri stressed on the need for the Iraqi people to unite and for Baghdad to strengthen its regional role.

“Iraq can play a large role at a regional level. We count on Iraq to strengthen its pivotal role among its neighbours which would help achieve stability and cooperation between the region’s countries,” Berri said.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi prime minister said that “Lebanon is a big country in terms of its influence in the Arab world.”

Berri arrived in Iraq on Sunday on an official visit which will see him meet Iraqi leaders and officials.
