Tan Sri who allegedly abused maids arrested

M Update, 4/4/2019 – The Tan Sri and his wife who allegedly abused their three Indonesian maids have been arrested by the police.

It was reported that three Indonesian maids were been placed under police protection after fleeing from their employer, who they claimed abused them. Investigations showed the three had worked with the Tan Sri for seven years, four years and six months respectively. Their escape came about when an unknown man brought them to the Indonesian Embassy after they climbed over the fence of their employer’s house in Country Heights.

The Indonesian Embassy’s minister-counsellor Yusron B. Ambary confirmed that the women had sought refuge at the consulate. Embassy officials lodged a report on March 22 regarding the alleged abuse at the Tun HS Lee police station. The three victims, aged between 25 and 41, claimed that they had been punched and slapped, as well as had their pay and passports withheld.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the couple were arrested at about 8am yesterday after they came to the Kajang police headquarters. He said they were taken to the Kajang magistrate’s court for a remand application.

Magistrate Nor Afidah Idris granted a nine-hour remand order on the couple which ended at 5pm. We are investigating the case under Section 13 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 for trafficking by means of force,” said ACP Ahmad Dzaffir. – The Star
