M Update, 04/02/2021 – Teachers are heroes with their dedication and perseverance to make teaching and learning possible for their students even when they tested positive for COVID-19.
A secondary school teacher, Naimmi Yusof recently tested positive for COVID-19 on January 26th and is now being treated at an isolation center in Keningau, Sabah.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the 34-year-old said that he was worried about his students who would soon be taking their SPM examinations and decided to continue his lessons online from the quarantine centre.
Naimmi, who is a Sejarah teacher, said that although the school approved his sick leave so that he could rest, he was still worried about his students.
“Exams are starting on the 22nd this month, and I cannot let their studies be affected because I am not there for them.
“I consulted with the doctors here, and they told me that I can do what I like as my health is good and that the virus in my body has weakened. And I like teaching, so I will continue to teach online,” he said.
Naimmi started recording all his lessons on his phone, and uploaded it on his YouTube channel for his students to watch, despite having limited teaching materials.
He added that his students were very understanding of his condition although they were very sad when they found out that he had tested positive for the virus, “They all kept praying for me. I told them that I couldn’t be there for face-to-face classes as I have to stay here at the isolation center.”
He also said that he will continue to teach his students online until he is allowed to leave the isolation center.
Thank you, Cikgu Naimmi for the hard work and sacrifices that you’ve put in for your students! What an inspiration!
