M Update, 1/3/2019 – A 15-year-old boy, who was trying to avoid being hit by an oncoming train near Kampung Kok Pasir yesterday, ended up drowned instead after he panicked and jumped into a nearby river.
The body of Mohd Haikal Firdaus Roslan was found near the riverbank by a group of villagers, who were deployed to look for the victim. It was learnt that prior to the incident, the SMK Kampong Laut student was hanging out with five of his friends at a section of the railway track.
Tumpat police chief Superintendent Ab Rashid Mat Daud said the boys were chit-chatting and taking pictures at the area. They were there around 5.15pm, chit-chatting and taking photos of the location. About one hour later, the victim stood on the train track and asked one of his friends to take his photo.
Suddenly, they heard a train coming and panicked. While his friends ran away from the track, the victim jumped into a nearby river.” he said, adding that Haikal’s friends tried to rescue him but to no avail. Ab Rashid said they later sought the villagers’ help to locate the victim. Haikal’s body is currently at the Kelaboran Hospital awaiting post mortem.
